Description

On our way to the Penobscot River, in upper Maine, for a class 5 white water river rafting adventure, we passed a river clogged with logs. Maine had some of the largest paper mills in the United States. Loggers strip the trees of all of the branches and then cut down the tree into the river. The trees float down river to the paper plant and are ground into pulp for paper and other paper type products. That is the simple explanation. Photo converted from a 1970s slide. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favorites and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

It's tragic how much ABUSE we humans are inflicting on Nature, as this image so aptly shows. Nowadays everytime I pick up a book or use anything made of paper, I don't feel good... :(

Such great, you have seen this by your own eyes, my friend. Very impressing to know about what I can see that happens here. When I was little, on school they showed us a movie, about how they get all the tree trunks in Scandinavia downwards over the water. I will never forget that.

Wow, that's a lot of dead trees, I bet there are a few Beaver Rustler's hiding on the banks waiting for an opportunity to make their even dams better ! ~Cheers~

Great capture Dana. What if they get stuck? Could that cause some serious flooding? I said it before, I am glad you take the time to scan your old pictures.
