Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Excellent capture!

Good shot considering the harsh light Andrea. It has served here to highlight the web.

It's what they do, eh? Great shot of this busy spider.

I've tried photographing webs several times...light has to be just right...notice there are none in my gallery:) Good job here!

A web of intrigue and a great shot.

The centre of the web looks like a bullet hole in glass.

Amazing the intricate work of a spiders web and when you see the elements have broken it down and you take a look the next day and it's rebuilt, spiders web is very tough... love the way the sunlight has been captured it in this shot. Nice work.

Interesting shot, A. Arachnids are genetically predisposed to repair their webs as soon as possible because their very existence depends on it, foodwise.

Lovely dappled lighting and the larger the struggling insect - the more damage to the web - but also the feast is more plentiful!

A spider's work is never done. A fantastic catch. It looks like someone tossed a rock through a pane of glass.

But they are so good at it. I once found a spider inside the house with a very large web, which is unusual as insects are deterred from entering my place. Anyway I was going to put him back outside but he was so small and I feared he might have used all his resources to build that web, so I caught a little moth and released him into the web so as to feed the spider before I showed him the door. He destroyed most of the web but became a meal for the spider. As it was late, I decided to put him out in the morning, which I did. By that time the web had been entirely repaired back to exact original condition without a trace of what had happened.

He does have some gaps to fill! What did he catch a pigeon! Great shot and spot!

Wow. Marvelous photo! You've captured the web so well, and as several mentioned, you have to get the light just right, and you sure did!
