Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Great shot my friend.

Nice find and capture. Quite easy to miss due to it's leaden colour. Not one for the pot because I think it can upset the stomach badly and it probably would need to be cooked extensively by which point there would be nothing to gain from the risk of undercooking it. Best avoided for the pot that is unless you want the trots and possible allergic reaction.

What a marvellous fungus. SO beautifully grey against all the warm autumn colors :)

The autumnal colors in this shot are amazing! What a lovely outfit one could have, a decorating scheme using these gorgeous colors! The color of this particular fungus is one of my fave shades, I'm partial to grays.

Oohhh, I love this. Yes, the flickr is probably better for technical matters, but this has a bolder look, and highlights the 'waterfall' feel of the shroom/fungus and all its strange sensual qualities. This capture has the big ugly 'spill' of the thing, the opulent 'whooshes' of it's lower half. And the big leaves around it make a bold sensual backdrop. I've never seen a fungus like this. An eye-popping shot! (You want a bad fungus joke? There aren't too many fungi jokes, so take it, you won't be too sorry...A mushroom goes to a bar and asks for a drink. The bartender says "we don't serve mushrooms." The mushroom says, "I'm not a mushroom!" The bartender says, "yes you are!" So the mushroom gets up on the bar and shouts: "Give me a drink, NOW!" And the bartender says, "We don't serve mushrooms, and you're a MUSHROOM!" And the mushroom says, "nope---I'm a FUN GUY".) (Fungi? Really bad joke...) (One more: A mushroom goes to a bar and wants a drink. The bartender says "we don't serve mushrooms." So the mushroom---desperate to get a drink---ties himself in a knot and hits his head against the stool a thousand times. Dizzy and broken, he crawls back to the stool, and stutters: "Give me a----drink!" And the bartender says, "no, you're a MUSHROOM!" And the mushroom says, "Nope---I'm afraaaaaaid not!") (A frayed knot??? Oooookay. I'll do better next time...but you got two FUNGUS jokes in one comment. Who else gave ya that?) (If you ever have some dates in the house, put one in a boarder's hand, move them around a bit, and then say: "See? I just set you up with a DATE.") End of biological jokes...
