Description

Gold King Mine Jerome, Arizona The man who owns and runs the Gold King Mine Museum and Ghost Town is not a junk man, but a serious collector. Many of these old trucks have plaques on the door giving the sort of information you would expect from any transportation museum. Everything on the property either came from the old mine or is a special and/or rare vehicle or piece of equipment. It's an outdoor museum, not a parts yard. I know there are several of you car fans who wish every old vehicle were restored to original condition, but if every car, truck, plane, train, tractor, front-end loader, diesel truck and helicopter ever made had been salvaged, saved, and restored to original condition, they wouldn't be special. These old workhorse trucks have their own life, their own stories and their own charm, and they show their wear and tear. If they were all restored to pristine condition, there would be nothing rusty to take pictures of!!

This is really cool, Tara - and I completely agree! The marks of a hard life, and the aging process through the years tell a story much better than a flashy new paint job. I would sure love to find one of those old Studie Rocket hood ornaments somewhere..

Trivia dredged up from the depths of my memory. Studebaker was the only company that was able to make the transition from wagons to automobiles.

Interesting. I'm a car fan, but never knew that Studebaker also manufactured spacecraft.

Long live the rusty hulks! This one has such a rich patina of rust and old paint, it seems to have a living and breathing presence. And what a moodily intimate shot of its beautiful hood ornament! Well done!

There was time a pride even in this ornament.. Meant to be seen and people would straight away know what car it was.. Not now though.. Shame. Great shot. Rob
