Description

This is the beautiful African Wild Cat. They closely resemble the domestic cat but are larger and more ferocious than your average pet and weigh up to 6kg. These beauties are almost entirely nocturnal and usually only moves about long after sundown. They are very, very rarely sighted. We were extremely lucky. This one, in broad daylight around noon, caught a ground squirrel in the Nossob camp. It proceeded to carry its prey to a tree and had its lunch. It then laid down on one of the camper's picnic tables and proceeded grooming itself from head to toe. Unfortunately he was in deep shadow and I had to use my 250mm lens. When anyone of the many crazy photographers moved too close to him, he hissed at us. I really did not want to experience a "close encounter" with him. I will post more pics of this beautiful and rare sighting! Thank you for visiting and for your very welcome comments and favs on my birthday upload for Mieke yesterday. Carin xx

It's a beauty and I can only think it must have been really hungry to hunt during daylight hours, again fate :) right place + right time = great shot :)

A really fine capture. He looks very healthy. We have feral cats here. Every domestic cat is only a generation away from being a wildcat.

Somewhat similar to our elusive and rarely seen Lynx and Bobcat. I have only seen them twice in the wild and got a photo of the second one but not worth posting. Great catch Carin!

S/he is a beautiful animal and looks so much like a house cat. Lucky for you to have the chance to take this photo. I also like the textures in the tree bark.

very nice cat Carin. I had an 8kg ginger tabby siamese cross once that was all bone and muscle. He was one big cat but he was the sweetest thing
