Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Excellent portrait, Andrea :-)

Art can indeed prevail under even the most sad circumstances, if one has the presence of mind to always keep a camera in one's pocket then that opportunity can be a crime if missed, these portraits of people are always a pleasure to view, it adds extra value when you know them.

Both are super portraits Andrea but there is something about B&W that I really like.

He looks a kindly fella!!

Really superb portrait

What an enjoyable portrait! I like it both in color and in b&w. The color shot shows off the wonderful natural lighting, which is fun to see. Side-and-reflected light off that pale wallpaper ... just like in a studio! :)

He has a very sweet and open face. Excellent portrait, and I do like the mono!

Excellent choice with B and W

A strong mono portrait indeed, great control of the facial tones! Backlighting is so difficult to deal with. I would have taken far too long trying the angles and missed the natural moment.

EXCELLENT WORK
jocko500
very good shot of him

Up close and personal with these wonderful lighting effects, Andrea. If I tried your bloke portrait tactics around my area I would first be threatened, then called to task for invasion of privacy, followed by extensive interrogation by the sheriff's department.

The color is a lovely portrait, but I have to agree, the black and white has a little something extra. back lighting is awesome, but I don't do it well for the most part.

Both images are wonderful

From these little glimpses of your past life I imagine you could write quite a memoir. The mind reels! I have to agree with the others. Both images are excellent but the black and white is more dramatic and shows the person's features to greater effect.

A fantastic image u got here of this young man.
aksirp
a real man and portrait, straight, without frills!
danapommet
I am going with the FlickR version because the color enhances his face and smile. I enjoy your random photos and comparing both color and B&W photos!

Super portrait.
