Description

When we were kids, Daddy would take my sister and me with him to find the Christmas tree. We would drive out to a local hillside and wonder through the cedar trees until we found the right size and shape to fit in the living room. He would cut it, drag it to the car and head home where Mother would decorate it in blue and silver. I think it was year two of this tradition that stands out best. We located what looked like a perfect candidate but decided to check out a few more possibilities. Daddy told Ann to mark that tree and we took off. When nothing else measured up, we turned back to get the first tree. After a short time with no luck spotting THE tree, Daddy asked Ann, "How did you mark the tree?" She replied, "I put a rock under it." Unfortunately this area is known for its ability to grow eastern red cedar trees and rocks. Daddy just shook his head and picked out the closest near perfect tree and we headed home. Ann has never lived that down in all the Christmas tree hunts that followed. (I couldn't find a tree that looked like the eastern red cedar, so I had to put fir/pine trees in this scene. The squishing of the image really messed up the quality. Sorry.)
