Description

We had a cold snap a couple of weeks ago--days and nights of very cold weather. Down to the 20's every night, though I know for some of you, that'd be tropical. Here on the coast of California, well, it's COLD!!! One morning I ventured out and found the roses covered with ice. I loved the way they looked.

They are well decorated for this time of year :) I never realised that California got that cold, we live and learn :) Great shot

They're so pretty! Did they survive the frost? We had that cold snap too, it's warmer now, though.

What a fantastic sight - I've never seen a rose with ice crystals trimming it's edges like this...

Stellar holiday ambience in this super portrait of the lovely red roses, with the demure miniature icicles, Marilyn, taken just before the blooms expired from the freezing temperatures,

After leaving a smattering of comments yesterday, I came to your gallery with the intention of doing a session here (ie, several shots in one sitting). But in the first 2 comments, my internet kept going out---our whole freakin' building went out---and I couldn't connect. So if you got some ebots that had nothing 'to' them, that's the reason. (And connecting on an ipad---via 3-G---is too difficult when it comes to viewing and commenting on art---I've done it, it's too awkward.) Well my server is back now, at the fine time of 4:47 in the morning, so I'll try it and hope that my comments go through. I'm back in December with this shot, and I don't think I mentioned it in email, so I'll do it here. This is a beauty. Beautiful and long icicles on the roses, like magnetic fillings being attracted to a magnet. (You know how magnetic fillings "stand up straight," when they're near a magnet? That's what the ice crystals do here.) Really fine closeup work, Marilyn, with real clarity on the ice, and also on the roses. You saw and pointed well, and the iced leaves and flowers move on a diagonal (from left to right), which makes for a really nice composition. A delicate exact shot, and beautiful. An evocation of winter too. (From where I'm sitting, you can HAVE our winter! We're in for another week of near-0 temps, and I-don't-know-how-low wind chills.) I'm amazed flowers last 2 seconds after the icing you show here. I'd think they'd wither and die immediately...

An exquisite capture of this icy rose - not something that we will ever see in south Florida!!!!!!!
