Description

It's been very cold & very foggy here for the last week or so. My wife was driving & I took out my camera & decided to try to capture the fog mood. So this was taken through the windshield from a moving car. My associations with fog are mainly from movies I saw when I was young - Sherlock Holmes out on the foggy moors, werewolves running through foggy forests or characters driving along foggy roads in film noir classics like "Detour". And somewhat more recently, Woody Allens "Shadows & Fog". I've always liked those fog-drenched scenes, though it can be challenging to drive in... Please zoom.

drive carefully - the roads can become very slippery - winter tires re a good idea. At this time of year it might also be wise not to be driving when the pubs close!

Thanks for your concern. When road conditions are potentially dangerous, we use our all wheel drive vehicle, which has mud & snow tires. And we try to avoid driving late at night under these types of conditions too.

Yeah yeah I know what you mean about fog! If I squint, I think I can make out Abel Magwitch!

A foggy night in Londontown. as suggested in this stellar capture of the atmospheric mood ambience. Love the blurred effect of the headlights. All of my fog shots are taken just after daybreak.

OOOh, I love this! Wonderful low light, it's full of atmosphere, for sure! And for a moving vehicle, a wonderfully clear shot, too. Well done!

You've done a wonderful job of capturing the feeling and the look of fog. It's not easy! Whenever I try, I either don't get a good shot to begin with, or I fiddle with the postwork until it doesn't look foggy, and then I'm not happy with it. LOL! This is marvelous!

I thought you were pulling one of my crazy tricks, that is standing in the middle of the road to grab a shot. I often do that in big cities, meter, then when light turns green step into the street, choose my shot and snap off a few before scurring back to sidewalk and then repeat until I get the right scene. But you were wiser and shot from a car. Very good job on that, I really cannot tell. I guess the fog ensured there would be no reflections on the windshield.

No, Roxy, there are many things I will do for the sake of a photo, but standing in the middle of the street in front of potential oncoming traffic isn't one of them. I guess you're braver than I am...
