Description

Yet another sunset. Some friends were visiting late this afternoon when one of them pointed this sky out. I excused myself, grabbed my camera & headed outside to try to capture it before it vanished. I set the exposure to capture the sky as vividly as I could, which left the landscape pretty dark & featureless. So I split sky & land into two separate layers & played with levels,curves, brightness/contrast & vibrance/saturation to bring out more detail in the landscape... Please zoom.

You did a great job working the RAW files here. I think you pushed the hyper-realism to just the right limit. Maybe putting the white balance to daylight or cloudy would have brought out more orange in camera but I am not complaining as you managed to amply recover it in postwork. I love the way you got the orange to come out in the landscape and leaving that middle mountain blue gives the image a great color contrast. Not only are the colors awesome but there is marvelous texture detail and contrast too.
