Description

When the Rephi Portals first started coming online, the links were to the planets and moons within our solar system, as the more ambitious efforts had to wait for portals to reach the nearby stars before they could open a wider field. Mars benefitted first, naturally, as a small colony effort had begun even before the invention of the portals was made public. Vanguard Industries, as one of the supporters of the consortium that developed the Portals, moved quickly to take advantage of this new and wider market demand. Their "Colony Support Ship" design was meant to be modular enough to be easily adapted to many uses, and their ambitions were very clear right from the start. For example: The huge receiving antennas on the rotating habitats created a huge virtual dish, that would easily be usable for exploration more so than mere communication. The first flight of their Operational Prototype was naturally closely watched by many of the nations and peoples of Earth, and the speculation and excitement it stirred undoubtedly had a great deal to do with the rapid development of our solar system. Even if the ships that followed rarely resembled this prototype at all. -------------------- Once again I'm trying to push myself back into making space ships and re-discovering some of my stories and ideas from the past. The ship was modeled in Bryce 6, Most of these textures are my own but the "gold" looking support frameworks are a modified preset. Background including faint nebula and stars were all made in Photoshop. Thanks for taking a look, it's great to be making Science Fiction again. Suggestions, critiques, and criticisms are definitely welcome. My modeling and such skills are quite rusty, so your feedback will help me get better at this!

I see the smaller dish at the aft end, for Direct TV? hopefully the rates aren't too 'astronomical'

Nicely done! I just wonder if the hab modules might work better rotated so the "cans" point out. Depends on the scale and the floor layout.
