Description

JuliSonne has recently posted images of Berlin and was lamenting there was no snow in her city for Christmas this year. So I commented that she was welcome to some of ours. We have now about 2.5 ft - 75 cm - and very cold winter in my city. This was from a Festival of Light taken in my river valley. Various scenes were set up and the colors of the lights changed every few minutes making it a photographers delight to practice night photo shoots. This lantern was a lot of fun for photogeeks like me because it showed difference between flat looking snow in middle distance from frontlit lighting and really sparkly textured snow up front from backlit lighting. Do not get me wrong, about cold and snow, I love the winter. The beautiful structure of the snow and being able to ski almost from my front door can make it a fun season. But you have to be a bit tough to enjoy it; otherwise it is just misery.

Wow, stunning light & color. I didn't know what to make of this at first - the colors looked looked so strange & unearthly & the lighting so theatrical. I thought it might be a software-generated scene, but then I read your description & it made sense. A really unusual & very creative shot...

Fantastic shot, this is a great idea to use a play of color lights over the snow, the result is enchanting for the eye ! I don't like snow either, thanksfully we don't often have snow in the South of France .. it's a beautiful but it's a pity when you have to drive to work or to clean the front of the house out with a shovel ;-)

Very beautiful. Here in Michigan, the snow melted for all the rain we just got yesterday and I feel sorry for the ski slopes. Now it is all ice.

This is really cool! I love the light play and different colors illuminating everywhere. Today it's about 65 degrees and rainy here. Almost all the snow is gone, but I believe something wintery is on its way.

No matter the temps, this is just spectacular, Roxy! Wow - just look at the gorgeous interplay of warm and cool light! This is magnificent! The high today here was about 25 F.... And instead of being inside drinking coffee, I'm outside flying a quadcopter... Don't like cold weather much, myself, but I can tolerate it for a few good shots!

Brrrr.. looks cold! I'm not so much for snow, but in Ohio we have it. I hate driving in it, though hiking and skiing might be more fun. Gorgeous shot! I love the luminous effect with the lamp.. i hope your Holiday is a good one, and the New Year brings you more joy and opportunity and happiness!
