Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

I also remember those kaleidoscopes, the were pure magic to me ... but how did you take a pic of them ??? I mean, I have got some idea - but I'm not too sure HOW ? do tell, won't you Andrea ? BTW we folded an Origami Crane just recently (followed video instruction - via google link) a bit tricky but worth the effort, you just can't have too many Cranes, you know ... BB

I remember having one of those when I was young, in some ways that was probably my first experience of colour and symmetry leading into abstraction.. drawing and painting when young in art class at school.... the one subject I liked and always hoped were double periods. I remember my art teacher well, she had a gift for being able to simplify the most complicated of things... the good teachers we always remember in adulthood. A great capture there. There is a feature in Corel Painter x3 for creating this effect in different ways as in the device... I will have to try that out.. never really used the feature.

G'laud, a trip back eons for me at the sight of this visual treat! Really awesome capture of the kaleidoscopic scene in this shot, A. And, do I detect a bit of digifiddling along with it?

They are great fun, aren't they? I've seen some really expensive ones at local gift emporiums, as well as cheap and cheerful ones at the dollar stores...all of them give the same pleasure!

Such a delight! Do you remember those glitter sticks from the 1990s? I've got a couple of them that go with a kaleidoscope. You put the wand in the viewing tube, and as the glitter drops, the images changes. Fabulous! I love your image ... such memories! :)

Nice work on this my friend.

Honey bought me one of these last year, same as you, I had not seen one since a boy, and childishly spent the next 20 minutes gazing through it in awe :) Mine was the type that didn't have coloured pieces in, it use the ambient light in the environment to create patters. Fun if you held it to the computer screen.
