Some time when you're not doing anything exciting, Google Elwha Dam removal and/or Glines Canyon Dam removal. They're restoring the Elwha River to its pre-dammed condition, and the folks in charge were kind enough to set up a camera that took five or six shots every day during the process. You can basically see a time-lapse of the dams coming down. Fascinating! We got to see the former Elwha Dam site last time we were on the Olympic Peninsula. An outstanding experience. :)

Well this obviously has some water in it---or else the lake bed is still moist. It's just shimmering and mysterious, so different from the first shot: This one is bathed in deep blue shadow, and the lights on the lake bed---halfway down---feel like creamy paint oozing its way to the sunshine. (Or like volcanic rock that hardened there. Like obsidian.) Same sense of sweep as the last shot, also very well composed. And a feeling of broad geological display...A marvelous pair, very different from each other, but there's no doubt that we're seeing the same lake. This one is like liquid light in motion. It's beautiful.

A nice shot with the mountains in the background - it almost looks like a dry river from this POV!
