Description
Early Byzantine Architecture of the 500's AD has always been an interest of mine. Hagia Sophia, located in Istanbul, Turkey, embodies the style more than any other structure. The 4 minarets were added in the 15th century as a result of later architectural influences. I've always felt that Hagia Sophia would have been more majestic if it had never been retro fitted with the minarets.

Awesome image! The minarets should never have been added I agree, but I think we should be happy that only minarests were added and the building itself wasn't destroyed to 'moslimise' it.

I can understand you, I studied classical archeology and liked the architecture of Greece and Romans a lot more than what they made of it later.

WOW! This is BEAUTIFUL! It could use a bit of tweaking of the contrast perhaps but, it is very nicely done.

It's a beautiful take on probably the most wonderous building in the world. Having been there a few times I am not totally disturbed by the fusion of Byzantine and Muslim cultures. I wish the frescos had not been plastered over and so many parts of them are lost, nor am I keen on the low hanging chandeliers but the minerattes I do not mind. I love how you have created this scene, putting this structure in a natural landscape rather than the heart of a huge city. and the minerattes blasting off are really well done and make your point.
