This is all that it's cracked up to be.
Captured 1/6/14, early in the morn, at a busy street intersection about a half block from where I snapped yesterday's peeling paint picture. The intersection has taken a real beating over the years from the weightwise heavy traffic that stops there.

They should have gone for a classic harder wearing font like Bembo bold.

Nice work on this thoughtful and clever presentation, Harry.

Amazing texture shot. I'm sure this STOP displayed here been driven over countless times and it shows. Excellent perspective too.:-)

Looks like some maintenance is seriously wanting here, Harry; much more wear and the STOP won't even be visible, and those cracks will become potholes. Still, it makes a great capture, with your usual excellent lighting/shadow and details.

A fine prelude to your street-shots montage, a few posts later---both first-rate examples of your eye and choices. The "stop" itself is worthy of the photo, because of its hugeness (in your pov) and of course the angle. (And I smiled at ironsoul's humorous comment on the font---like city planners even think about those things, lol.) But of course what makes the shot is the spectacular cracks and chasms, dressed in what denise calls "your usual excellent lighting/shadow and details" (emphasis on "usual," as it's something you do over and over in your gallery). Love the system of rivers, tributaries and canyons that criss-cross this command ("stop"); and how it flows in and out of the letters. It almost makes the command more threatening, like being told "stop" by a bony fresh-from-the-dead vampire. And I like your inclusion of shadow and some other lines at the top of the photo---as an abstract, they complete the composition. I just realized: If you shot these at normal day hours, you may not be able to stand in these spots long enough to get the shots you want. Early morning makes it easier, I assume. But you also have this deep dialogue with early morning light; and it's doing its thing all over the cracks and crevices here. A wonderful, rich shot, of something most of us would consider too pedestrian to look at. (No pun intended on "pedestrian".) It popped off the page when I saw it the first time, still pops off the page now. Love it.
