Description
Captured back on 12/6/08, early morning, at a local park.
A photo of a very rare sight, which, after adding a simple frame, mushroomed into an image with a more professional touch. And far be it from me to guess this variety of fungi.
A ZOOM would be of inestimable value.
Farvel.

Great textures! No ID from me, I'm afraid, without seeing the underside.

I love how these get those tiny round holes as they age; wonderful shaggy texture in high relief from the bright sunlight, an excellent shot and presentation, sir!

I slept 6 hours, and now I'm wide awake at 3:15 am...which is fine, as I was planning to come here in the 'normal' morning anyway. Instead, I'm here before dawn. So while the wind chills are sub-arctic and it's pitch dark outside, I now re-visit your light-filled images... Loved this shot when it went up. It's almost like nature itself used PS filters. Wonderful textures on the head of this fungus, and you've captured it with two perfect 'hemispheres', one in light, the other in shadow. It's almost as if it were painted that way, it's so perfect. I love the detail---and for me, this is in the same world as your beautiful peeling paint series, because they're both about luscious peeling, decay and process. I can't get over the division of this fungus---and you shot it head-on, surrounded by all those sun-illuminated grasses. Then you framed it in just the right spot (the right crop). I think it's professional without the frame, but the frame formalizes it (as proper framing does), and presents it as an offering (again, as fine framing does). It looks almost like a pastry---though I wouldn't eat the thing (I wouldn't dare). Still it's like a fungus presented for the diner's approval, or posing for a place in a museum. Fine capture, pov and postwork on this lone mushroom. A little jewel, Harry.
