Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

A plethora of lush color, contrast, texture and overall oxidized ambiance in this shot, Andrea. Stand far back if that cable ever breaks.

I'm only back for a picture right now, but I'm planning a long session soon. I come here with each post and think of a million things to say, and it's not easy to tuck them away. You've often said that you just point and shoot, but you have a 'way', and not only do you get these fresh views of familiar objects, but you get the kind of linear and textural contrasts that only a long-experienced artist would see in the first place. And your humor is there, your sharpness, and your penetrative eye for detail---some if it really intense! Saw the original (on flickr) and loved it too, for the contrasting angles (bricks vs cable), the contrasting hues, and the big feel of it all---even though it's just a small segment of wall. In the postworked version, you've brought the contrasts to high ground, they're vivid and strong, and the detail in brick, mortar and rust are heightened to where they look topographical; and the picture's full of light. (The mortar feels luminous, as does the cable.) An electric and, yeah, tension-filled piece, very alive, and very much an andrea transformation. I have lots of comments waiting, here, and hope to give them soon (I just saw your waterlily, today, and it's crying out for comment---a real wow-ser.) But for now, I love this gallery! This image is terrific.
