Description

Central Trust Company building San Antonio, Texas Designed by Sanguinet & Staats and completed in 1919 for the Central Bank & Trust, this building was renamed the South Texas Building in 1932 after the bank crashed. It was remodeled in the 1940s and revamped again in the 1980s. The current tenant is a Hilton hotel. That's a lot of pretty dry information for such an elegant structure!

It's amazing what the banks can do with the money of others! Nice photo!

Elegant is the perfect word. This is beautiful and a very fine capture. Did you notice the gap in the decorative molding between the top of the left window and the top of the center one? I wonder what's up with that?

This is simply beautiful; reminds me of some of the buildings in Chicago and Boston. And guess what, I found Edcouch on the map!!

It emanates such gravitas! Your photo makes it look beautiful as well as dignified, like a dowager duchess.

They don't build them like this anymore.

Designed and built with obvious skill and craftsmanship (unlikely to have been craftswoman ship in 1919, unfortunately). The craftswoman ship here is in the capture...

This is indeed a most beautiful building. I am also curious about the anomalies in the photo. When wysiwig mentioned the gap in the molding I got looking closer too. It appears as though a diagonal line of noticeable distortion from the top left goes through the photo to about the center of the middle window. I would be interested to know what caused that. Anyway no matter what this is certainly a lovely photo of a gorgeous building and i thank you for sharing it.

Dang! In all my taking-out-the-people postwork, I didn't see that. It isn't in the original, of course ... it must be a Photoshop glitch from having done a bit of a "warp" to even out the image. sigh You learn something new every day.

Usually I try to get a frontal capture to have straight lines. Your camera angle is precious and give more emphasis to this serious architecture. Brava

What an elegantly lovely structure! And those golden lights inside really draw attention to those stunning windows. Well done!

A truly elegant building, and a lovely capture, Tara! I really like the contrast of the sky lighting on the upper part of the building, and the warm light from the windows. Very beautiful!

Warm & appealing tones & light. I'm starting to see this as a common thread that runs through many of your photos. You could put an entire album together of photos that share this quality...

I like the angle and the light Tara. I had a hard time finding the glitch, but I liked whaleman's comment!

always a tough capture, these looming monumental windows---because of the angling, and because of the difficulty of getting a perfect spot from which to shoot (ie, because of people, traffic, trees, etc). Your angle is brought to 'music' by your beautiful light, both in and out of the building. And by your crop. And by the clarity of your hues---from deep reddish browns to dusty browns to blacks, etc. And your interior hues (very warm) are really nice contrast with the cooler browns outside. And then, the light on the windows is wonderful, for contrast. A fine architectural capture; and that little diagonal which snuck in while you weren't looking? It doesn't interfere in any big way. And that's because so much else was enticing in the shot, the diagonal didn't matter. But nice that someone noticed it though, because it means that people are really looking. Very sensitive capture.
