Description
Second in this series, captured 1/14/14, early morn, on my way back home from Walmart.
This behemoth obstructed my progress long enough for me to snap some pics of it as it rolled slowly by, with the head-splitting blasts from its horn, which can be heard for miles/kilometers around, warning all that stood in its path.
The locomotive is displayed in collage no. 1. The last photo in this one shows the long shadows cast at that time, including mine, as the train continues west.
A few of these pics aren't what I had hoped for in composition, not being exactly centered and all, but standing up so close to a moving target does not offer the best in foto opportunities, especially when action shots are not your forte.
And railroad cars are a perfect format for graffiti artists.
Even at this size, a ZOOM would be appropriate.

When that horn sounds just as you're snapping the shutter...I know what you mean. Nice collage.

Wonderful Work,

I think you did exceedingly well considering your moving target; the lighting is lovely, and even that graffiti is almost attractive; looks like many of the cars are empty/unloaded, too. Good work using this delay for photography, Harry!

Here we get to see the phantasmagorical aspect of freight trains. A real jewel of a montage. The first shot not only has the strange graffiti of box cars, but the most unusual orange-yellow hues---almost powdered, as if with pastels. And those far-left hues---from the sun---are to die for. The second is really the only shot that's greatly effected by motion, and it's just enough to make it seem dream-like. I love its inclusion with the bunch. Its hue is also strange and otherworldly. 3 is the one total break from all those solid cars: Great you gave us this one. ("Well I'll be! There's a CITY back there!") Even the red flashing lights are caught exactly between two girders---man, you were thinking fast with that shot! 4 is a "zowie" shot---can't get over all that day-glo crimson with that blue; and that wonderful morning sun on the wheels and ground. Your usual morning light mixed with an acid trip...And the last one's a beauty, so many hues, and those beautiful long blue shadows. I think it was in a recent street montage where Denise wrote that you must be the tallest man alive because your legs were so long. (Great comment!) Well here they're long, too, harmonizing with all the other lines in this shot. Love this shot, I think it's the longest of the bunch; and the hues and light are wonderful. Terrific series. A fav for both.
