Description

Captured 1/14/14, early morn, on my way back home from Walmart. This behemoth obstructed my progress long enough for me to snap some pics of it as it rolled slowly by, with the head-splitting blasts from its horn, which can be heard for miles/kilometers, warning all that stood in its path. As shown, the engine lugged a variety of cars behind it. Even at this size, a ZOOM would be appropriate. Finally, tacos anyone? Cheerio.

Lunch? Si! I admit to be "pleased" by the interruptions of such critters -- provided I'm not on a schedule to be somewhere and said critter will make me late.

Unless it's for taking photographs of them, I'm never pleased to be interrupted by these "critters," and those brain-shattering horns they use to warn people and vehicles that they are on their way.

Mmm. Tacos...yes please, anytime. Trains too. I've always loved trains, and can watch them for as long as it takes them to go by (usually!) Counting the cars is fun, although it can get difficult for some of those long ones that run through the Southern California desert, which can be well over 100 cars. Excellent series of shots of this traffic interruption, Harry; and I think my train of thought has been derailed!

Nice shots of these massive beauties. These cars are colorful , and full of details not usually noticed. Noted efforts on the postwork. I've also noticed that each car provides very specific functions and services. Good job!

As a musician, I once made a 10 minute composition of nothing but train horns. I got copyright-free recordings of the beasts crying in the night, and made a big audio montage. So I can attest that they can be quite musical---IF (a loud "if") you have the privilege of hearing them softly in your living room. Up close, those things can send you flying to Mars.. A fascinating series! (This and the next.) Very powerful light and hue, when one considers that these are all in motion, and that you didn't set out to do motion shots at first. This series has more "normal" train shots than the next; and, since I assume the sun is behind you and to your left, it confers the most beautiful "dissolving" of the trains, on the image's far-left. It casts a beautiful bleached yellow-orange light over everything, too. The box cars in number 3 are beautifully bathed in that light...Hue-wise, you went from the yellow of the first 2 (locomotive and engines?), to the rusty yellow-tans of the mid shot; to the white-ish smooth hues of the last two. Not an accident, I presume, since you're always progression-conscious in your montages. And the light against those last two really creates an ephemeral feeling. So how is all this light and ephemera topped-off? By that big bold "Turkey Taco" sign! It's in every shot. Love that juxtaposition (the train and light almost galactic; while the sign brings us back to the city). A really fine collection, Harry; and I'm off to the second now...
