Description

Just back from a long weekend in Portland, during which I didn't access email or Renderosity, so have some catching up to do. Also didn't take very many photos, but did get one of this interesting cottage while walking through one of Portland's many charming neighborhoods. I briefly toyed with the idea of removing the modern house next to it (from my photo, not from the neighborhood), but decided not to.... Please zoom.

Nice photo of one of many cool, old, well-kept up homes -- in Portland's West Hills, I presume. While this house definitely has characteristics of the several "Spider Houses" of Portland, which feature a living room window with a leaded spider web motif [like this reference: " 2997 SW Fairview Boulevard: J.O. Frye House (also known as the Fariss House as well as the “Spider House” because of the leaded windows resembling a spider web"], it also has Swiss chalet characteristics. Most of the "spider houses" are made of dark volcanic rock, but this one is of light colored stucco. Very interesting cottage. You have to zoom and enlarge to see the spider web effect in the front right window..

I have never see a roof like that with the shingles coming around the edges as if covering a pillow. Also the spider web window and many other interesting features that truly do add storybook charm to this house. thanks for sharing

Not only a magnificent shot of the Swisslike cottage, but also of the dual drill bit topiary bushes, pointing toward the sky, in the foreground.

The combination of the unique roof and the natural wood against the white creates the feeling of a cottage in the alps! I love it!
