Description


This mega-ship is intended not just to deliver colonists but to get new colonies up and running as quickly as possible. Once the destination planet is reached, the colonizer pods separate from the mothership and their wings fold into position for the one way trip to the surface. In some situations one or more pods will make a jump to the next system on their own. As a pod travels through the atmosphere, thermoelectric plating on the bottom of the hull and wings converts the intense friction-generated heat into power for the anti-grav generators. Housed in the wings, the generators bring the pod to a near stop a short ways above the surface, at which point the landing feet are extended, and the jets within them fire to soften the touch down. The pods are modular and designed to be disassembled, their various parts becoming the first structures of the colony. Back in space, the mothership is put into a stable orbit, where it will remain, eventually being expanded into a full space station. The control portion separates and returns to the homeworld to pilot a new colony ship, experienced crew being much more valuable as such than as colonists. Feeling rather unenthusiastic about the prospect of texturing this, I decided I'd post it as is, and maybe let it be for a while. I don't want to use pre-made textures for this one, so I've got a lot to learn. It was modeled in Mechanisto, and the various renders were assembled with GraphicConverter. Comments and suggestions would be appreciated - criticisms too.

I've done extensive work on models of this genre and consider this to be one of the better ones I've seen ... your fore-thought on its workings and design are quite impressive ... I look forward to seeing the final work (perhaps as a recruitment ad would be a nice touch)

I also enjoy making such detailled models, mostly using Bryce primitives and terrains, with sometimes a little DXF or OBJ mesh and I'm really impressed ! I could give you good advices if you decide to use Bryce for the texturing of your vessel.
