Scoutship Captain Bryn Kerrick's Log

Folded into the FR-2744x system today. Five weeks out, this is the last system I was to investigate, and I've had just about enough of this endless expanse of stars. Long range scans indicated the presence of planets around a sun-like star here, and it was hoped there might be an earth-like planet among them. So there is, but it appears I'm not the first to find it.
I never thought I'd be the one to discover a new race of aliens, but I can't deny my eyes. I've never seen ships move like these - I would almost swear they're alive.
I haven't come this far to not investigate this planet, and I'm certain my superiors wouldn't take it kindly if I didn't try to get some solid scans and visuals of these alien ships and their station. Maybe they're friendly, but I can't shake this feeling that they're just waiting for me to come into range. I will try to get a closer look on my way to the surface, but for the record, I'm doing so against my better judgement...
Modeled and rendered in Mechanisto using procedural shaders/textures. Background in Photoshop using Flaming Pear's Glitterato and LunarCell plug-ins. Postwork in Photoshop.
Comments and suggestions are welcome, thanks for taking a look!
(If anyone feels this doesn't belong in the beginner gallery, let me know and I'll move it elsewhere, with a smile.)

Thanks! Glad you like the story too. I'm really not sure if he's going to make it in that escape pod, but it is awfully hard to hit something that small...

You really think so? :) Ok, I'll be posting in the Other Apps gallery next time. When that next time will be, I'm not sure, as graphics play must give way to school work for a while. Such heady praise - Thank you!
