Terrific work RedSteve. I'm a Wing Commander fan and really like this. Sounds like you need to upgrade to Cinema 4D or Truespace. Both render volume lights way quicker than Bryce.

How strange to see fan blades in space.. even volumetric light means atmosphere, or gaz... Anyway.. it's a very good work here

Pidjy, Thanks for the comment. I was waiting for someone to mention the fans! This is the pressurised side of the spaceport - through the holes (contained by fields) is the vacuum side. As you mention, can't have light beams without atmosphere...:)

great image, as for animating, try replacing beams with cylinders with cloud plane material, animated images can get away with less detail, c ould also apply a lense effect in post.... might help reduce render times
