Description

A fairly grey sight, although there are quite a few flowers when you go out and look. The Witch Hazels are a joy, and the early camelias have started to flower. Some of last years annuals are still in bloom, such as Calendula, and the bulbs are coming up fast. The blue conifer in the centre is a dwarf Abies, which is quite rare. It looks good all the year round. It is A.procera glauca prostrata. We have had only 2 days of frost, but it has been the wettest January since records began in 1910. I am very fortunate to live in an area of excellent drainage, on sandy soil. Others , especially in Somerset, have had a really terrible time with the floods.

Who needs flowers, when you have a garden like this - with beautiful colourful trees and shrubs, it's a paradise, so natural ... especially that blue Conifer and the yellow Bamboo and is that Rosehip fruit, on the right ? Wish we had some of your rain, it is still sweltering here ... around the 30C, daily ! BB

Even without flowers your garden is a wonder. All it takes is 60 years of constant care I suppose. {;-> And that dwarf Abies is beautiful. If you wouldn't mind sending some of that rain our way. A severe drought was just declared throughout California.

Your garden is a joy Andrea - even in winter! We have had serious flooding in the Johannesburg area for the past three days. Ours of course is summer rain and the moment the sun breaks through - even for a short while, it is boiling hot with high humidity!

Stellar compendium of photos taken under mostly sunless skies, Andrea. Thanks to your green thumb, your vast garden appears to have been doing quite well in January.

I always enjoy your garden collages and this is very colourful to me! I was just thinking I could do one tomorrow and it would be 13 photos of snow and empty branches and would appear to be B&W.

Aha .. the January Garden! I so looked forward to your "garden of the month" montages! So beautiful, I can never get over the amount of blooms and color you have in your winter garden! Ours of course is mostly whites and greys and blacks and browns .. beautiful in it's own way.
