Description

Got set up at just after dawn on a bridge over the Seine to shoot the Eiffel Tower. Was blessed with the rather rotten weather of a cold late spring that produced a very rich skyscape. At the time I was quite annoyed with the commuter train that popped into view at a critical moment but in postwork I think it adds to the urban grunge feel of this scene. Not your typical touristy view of the Tower.

Roxie, this truly is a sensational capture with a very cool feel to it. I also think the train popping into the scene added just the right touch to it.

I was born in Paris & have been back to visit many times over the years, but I've never seen the Eiffel Tower from this particular vantage point. I like the grungy postwork (definitely not the typically romantic postcard look) & I think the train is a positive rather than a negative. And you could have waited until it passed if it really bothered you, right?

Sorta, coulda waited, yes. But I was supposed to be on a bus in about 10 minutes and I had to pack up and get back to my hotel.

An excellent point of view. The lines bearing down on the tower are great and the train just adds to that. I like the rich saturation and contrast in the colors you get with your post work. Definitely a real look instead of the glamor shot. Cool.

You know..... I think the train adds to this wonderful image. To me it's so much better than empty tracks would have been - of course I like trains, so I may be a bit biased! :-D And that sky...... Wow! Not to mention your postwork - this is gorgeous! It is such a challenge to try and get a different angle on a famous landmark that's been photographed a gazillion times. I had the same feeling last fall when we visited Mt. Rushmore - How do I get a shot that doesn't look like the previous hundred-million shots of it taken last month. It looks like you managed it with style - I've never seen the famous Paris landmark from this angle - I like it! A lot.

I've only ever seen the tourist postcard views of the Eiffel Tower. I like this view much better. I like the cityscape .. so much more real then the tourist shots. Your postwork is wonderful, giving it a sort of watercolor/ink feel. A realistic painting, like an Andrew Wyeth or something. Love that you put in wide window sills for your cats (: The bow window is one of Leya's fave spots. There's a blanket there now to keep her warm. The back of a wingback type chair by a window is another fave spot.

What kind of special "action" did you add in postwork to give the pic this wonderful specific "render" ?

I very much like the atmosphere you've given to the 'city of lights' here, with this excellent postwork filter. For me, who don't live in Paris but come on a professional mission every year to the capital city of France, this photo perfectly reflects my own vision of the city, less charismatic and golden and more earthly and vivid !
