Description
The turbojet powered Gloster Meteor was the first Allied operational jet fighter. The initial work on a propulsion system began as early as 1936, but the Meteor's initial flight didn't take place until 1943.Despite the fact that the Meteor (or "Meatbox" as it was nicknamed by its pilots) was not very aerodynamically advanced, it turned out to be an effective fighter. It didn't experience any combat in the world war, but it did serve with considerable distinction by the RAAF in the Korean conflict.
If Germany had made different decisions and the war extended, the Meteor might well have had to prove itself against the Me-262 and newer German designs. Another tale for the "might have been" archives.
Gloster Meteor: free on sketchup warehouse by sletch2003, retextured and "kitbashed" a bit (basic, but very nicely done model).
Pilot: ApolloMax with ADH3d USAAF pilot pack available here on Rendo.
"Pillbox": free by TRMDA on sketchup.

Was drawn to your comment "basic, but very nicely done model", that pretty much sums up the real thing....having walked around one of the original prototypes at Hendon and then building a model, 'basic but functional' seems to hit the nail on the head. You have taken a subject that it's hard to make glam and with excellent use of props and fx along with possibly the best POV, you've created something quite spectacular. 10/10++

They were deployed in Ground attack missions and 'Diver' (V1) patrols during WW2.. But, as you say no air to air combat was recorded and most certainly no Jet vs Jet! Great Render! I love it Rob
