Description

2012, june 16th... pa stork & his kids FYI? to everyone's surprise pa & ma didn't leave for Africa the kids obv. went with other storks that had gathered in the neighbourhood. they spent the longggg, (for-)ever lasting winter of 2012/'13 on the nest... next to the food bucket. ;-) when spring finally arrived, around may?, they restored the nest & seemed to be breeding, but no baby has been seen. as I've been told. too cold for too long?? (at the mom it's 7 degrees C in the middle of the night, 11 during the day! ... and storming)

The thing about predation among animals is that without the predators, the gene pool of those who are hunted would weaken and the prey would just eventually would die out from diseases or just weak genes, or starvation. Predators are a necessary part of nature. They keep the balance. Here, we have hunting season for Deer because otherwise so many of them would die from starvation over the winters from lack of food, there are just too many deer and not enough wild land to support the ever expanding deer populations. People complain that deer are destroying their gardens, yet they don't like to see them hunted and demand that something be done about the over population of deer. There are no predators left in most of the states, so too many deer, not enough land to support them, and so it goes. It is the same with many birds .. and other animals. Okay, end of rant about the natural of order of things. I love this picture .. it's like a benediction, a blessing of the young, the nest, and the house that supports the nest. Gorgeous.
