Description

"Deer In The Headlights" As a car and a truck approach each other on a dark 2-lane road, both spot a buck deer at the edge of the road . This poses extreme danger for both vehicles and the deer. Should they swerve, possibly causing an accident, or continue forward and hope the deer is able to get out of the way? Renders in Poser, Vue, & Minor postwork in photoshop. terrain: Forestviewdrive by HFarkes, Added night atmosphere, Deer from Cornucopia, Free Poser road sign w/my texture from Renderosity, Truck and Tanker by Daz for Poser, Multiple Lighting effects in Vue. 18 objects. Rendered at Broadcast quality, in 29min., 42sec. Original size: 2150x1200@240dpi. BTW.... The deer safely turned around and escaped the danger. The truck and auto cautiously proceeded to their destinations. [Image based on actual experience on rural road near Bartlesville, OK., last year while taking grandkids to a swim meet.] [Additional detail can be seen in full size.] Thanks for viewing my image and your comments.

Excellent work! Around here, deer are thick and you have to be careful driving at dawn and dusk. Our mail lady collided with seven one month. They tend to ambush you. They send one out to get your attention then as you are watching that one bound away the second one darts out and plows into your path/car. The car insurance companies hate them.

great image reminds me of the call-in show where the woman demanded that the state move the 'Deer Crossing' signs to another area as too many deer were getting killed where the sign was posted.

A scene I see too often. Mostly the results by the side of the road, but that is quite common in my area. Last month a crazy accident happened when a man traveling in a pick up at normal speed hit two deer. One came through the windshield and went out the back window. This caused the man to swerve uncontrollably and go off the road and into a pole. Unfortunately he died later that day in the hospital from the injuries. I live in a rural yet congested area as new developments and McMansions get built to house the NYC corporate types, who love the country, yet wonder why the deer are running all over the place and eating their ornamentals. They don't get what displacement means, especially when it takes place in only ten years. I'd say about a development a year has gone up in my "neck of the woods" over the last ten years. This required new monstrous high schools and former high schools to be elementary and secondary schools. So the effect on the habitat and ecosystem is just short of catastrophic. Sorry for the rant on your image, but it evokes feelings of a very big problem around here. I would say that makes this image a success! :)

Adorety, The problems you rise are not unique to your area. No appology needed for the rant. Although this image was based on a particular night on a certain road a while back, there was a dead deer on the shoulder of the road between my house and the YMCA [3 mi]. Those deer are also steadlly being displaced. Jim

Nice work... ..................... The question how to handle the situation... Depends of the fact, if you are risk to endager other road users or environment by hazardeous jinks... If so - than it's better to hold the line...

A great dramatic image you created here, but would the drivers swerve of not??? That is a tricky one because they could both swerve in the same direction. I was taught to drive many years ago by a police inspector who also taught advanced driving. He told me if there was a dog for instance in the road that I should just carry on and not swerve so as not to risk any human life! Doing that and then accepting that our own instincts usually come to the fore in these desperate situations I guess both drivers would swerve to avoid the animal and hope they swerved in opposite directions. hugs Jane xx

I'm with JaneEden on this...don't swerve. Better a dead deer than you and your family. Absolutely brilliant image. So well done on so many levels. I am impressed.
