Description

Scotland, Argyll, Lochawe, St. Conan's Kirk The effigy of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland in the St. Conan's Kirk in Lochawe. Beneath the figure is a small ossuary which contains a bone of the King himself, taken from Dunfermline Abbey. Robert Bruce is the greatest of all the great Scottish heroes, yet the Hollywood movie Braveheart gave all the heroics to his compatriot William Wallace, making Bruce out to be nothing more than a self-serving opportunist. Robert the Bruce was born in Turnberry, Scotland, in 1274. He inherited the title Earl of Carrick and in 1296 swore fealty to Edward I. In 1297 he joined the Scottish revolt under William Wallace and was appointed one of the four guardians of Scotland. In 1306 Bruce was crowned king of Scotland and died on 7 June 1329. What a place of rest for those bones. I would have loved to have seen the sun rays beaming through that gorgeous window. Very nice and excellent lighting on this one for being inside. You captured exactly what was meant to be seen!

A wonderful photo from the inside Rita and there is a fantastic statue of Robert the Bruce, near Stirling Castle, in Stirling, Scotland!
