Description

Another "Sea" duck from my ongoing project. Some least Terns and Killdeer in the background, too. I used Nerd3D's swamp set and changed the background plane from the bayou to a cloudy sky to give it more of a coastal march look. I tried to add python generated snow to give it more of a tundra look but after 3 hours of a blank screen rendering-- I decided a more southern march would do- lol The male King Eider forehead during breeding season expands with a large yellow or orangish knob at base of upper bill. Eiders breeds along Northern Hemisphere Arctic coasts of northeast Europe, North America and Asia. The birds spend most of the year in coastal marine ecosystems at high latitudes, and migrate to Arctic tundra to breed in June and July. It winters in arctic and subarctic marine areas, most notably in the Bering Sea, the west coast of Greenland, eastern Canada and northern Norway. It also occurs annually off the northeastern United States, Scotland and Kamchatka. Breeding areas include the Arctic coastal tundra of the north coast of Alaska. Eiders feed on invertebrates; such as crustaceans, polychaete worms, and mollusks, with mussels being the favorite food. King Eiders can forage on sea beds up to 25 m (82 ft) deep. The female of this species is often referred to as the “Queen” Eider. Rendered in Poser 2014 without any post work. Models included are Soggy Bottom Swamp (with sky from Waves on the Beach) (Nerd3D), Pond Reeds (rDNA), Cat Tails and King Eiders, Least Terns and Killdeer (Ken Gilliland/Hivewire3D).
