Description

Trying to show I still have love for Australian birds, I've added the Hardhead to my duck line-up. I threw in some Broglas (Australian Crane) and Comb-crested Jacanas (Australian Lily-trotters). On a side note, I keep finding Nerd's swamp set more and more versatile. I set the material to dry vegetation, replaced the bayou background with a sky one, and added a reddish shader to the ground material and voila!-- an Australian estuary. The Hardhead is endemic and common in most of Australia, particularly in the Murray-Darling Basin, but also in the wetter country near the coasts. They are moderately nomadic in normal years, but disperse widely in times of drought. Hardheads have declined in some areas after draining of freshwater wetlands or diversion of water for irrigation. They eat small aquatic creatures, supplemented with water weeds. They dive deep into the water, often staying submerged for as long as a minute at a time, while they forage for food. Both male (shown here) and female are a fairly uniform chocolate-brown above, with rufous flanks and white undersides. The trailing edges and almost the entire underside of the wings are white. In the male, the eyes are a striking white, in the female, brown. This duck is also sometimes called the "White-eyed Duck" Rendered in Poser 2014 without any postwork. Models: Soggy Bottom Swamp (Nerd3D) and Songbird Remix Jacanas, Australia Volume I and Waterfowl Volume 2 (Ken Gilliland/Hivewire3d)

When I saw the title I expected to see a photo of my grandchildren. Losing an hour of sleep is already getting to me. These are wonderful models of this duck. I like that you added the other birds to the background. Excellent work!
