Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Lovely pic, you have 3 taps :0)

Fascinating picture, nicely taken... indeed three taps with two cold taps... that what I call a good insurance policy... just before downsizing I had one of those glass vases.. exactly the same as the one on the far left.. I gave it to the charity shop but I think it's an early milk bottle if I'm not mistaken and they do indeed make fine vases... because of the ample footprint.. they don't become top heavy. This really is a nice shot, Cymbidiums look lovely.

LOL Jayfar is quite the jokster...toothbrush... I love the glass behind the flowers as well. That wavy pattern gives it a very nice touch.

There is a lot to like in this image. The flowers are beautiful and the taps look vintage. I really like the almost surreal look of the background window. And, of course, there is the porcupine.

You've the best windowsill!! Is the glass in that window that way, or did you do a bit of digifiddling? I love it, no matter which way it is!

Wow, this is a beautiful juxtaposition. The flowers wind around in beautiful array, and their highly sensual surfaces make them like a flower version of cashmere, wending all over the ledge. But then that textured glass just breaks up the light and sculpts it into soft "platelets"---love the distortion. It's such an active shot, Andrea, so much light and play going on. And those three metal things on the bottom---supataps? What are supataps?---they act like "calls to order" for the whole bunch. Or guards keeping outsiders away. From one of our masters of still life (you), this is a beautiful example, with wonderful light and distortions. You even have a hallucinatory 'crucifix' on the right side (!!!)---right over that brown bottle, an over that blue whatever it is? You probably didn't intend that, but it adds a hallucinatory touch to the piece. I love this. What you'll do with a simple setup in your home just makes my mouth drool. Won-der-ful. (Ok, what ARE supataps! They look like beer taps. You serve beer in your kitchen??? The dogs "tie one on," do they? Ok, they're shower heads. Actually they look a little like missile silos. See, I've never seen those. Anyway, I'm obsessing, and it's the picture that counts. It's just, in all the kitchens I've seen, I've never seen those before!......Awright, I just read every comment: They're taps. Taps. Well I could've figured THAT out, people!!! But I've never seen taps like these: I take it those lower bulby things are for filtration? ((Maybe the taps are pregnant.)) Those lower compartments look like characters from the old Mr Potato Head sets, with the big silly ears. Ok I'll move on. I'm gonna dream about these for weeks...)

I have long thought your taps were one of the most artistic things on that side of the Atlantic, and I can't wait to come visit so I can splurge on taking a million pictures of them! Oh ... talk to you and the dogs? Well, all right. Just one more shot ... :P They look gorgeous with the orchids. Dripping sap or no, this is the perfect place for those cuttings!

So beautiful is this, Andrea. The window you have very special with that post-work. I hope these beautiful flowers still standing there with their colors. What amazes me is that you have three water taps.

Yes, I do remember it also, when you posted those wicked looking taps - but can't quite remember how they were working ? but that's besides the point right now - what a charming set up with those flowers and everything else in an orderly fashion ;) and the BG digifiddle is real neat Andrea, BB
