Description

The heavy china they used on board ship has such a presence about it ... an attitude, even. It was undoubtedly practical, utilitarian, and nigh unto unbreakable, but there's something about its simplicity and heft that pleases me. Bill and I met up with Jock (jocko500) tonight for dinner, and afterward got to tour the gallery where he hangs his paintings. What a great evening! Thanks, Jock! :)

You are correct, I miss the feel of military dining ware. There is something basic about the chow hall. It is a place of chaotic peace and safety. It was always that one moment of refuge in an otherwise stormy day.

Which one does not belong? Nice contrast between the plan plates and the simple decoration on the cup.

A most satisfying composition. I would have chosen bigger finger holes had I been the household goods commissioner!

You can still find dishes like that in old fashioned diners. Like you, I admire it's simplicity & lack of pretension...

Fantastic shot Tara. In the RAF we used to sing a song that went. "She was only a flight sergeants daughter, but now she's an officers mess" LOL

You know.... I'd love to have one of those! I guess I'll just go get a cuppa instead. A wonderful shot, Tara!

Hey, I have some of that same crockery, white with a green stripe around the edge. You make it look much nicer!

Great, it has a lot in common with the Communist-era school cafeterias and popular eateries ("milk bars") all around in Poland and other countries. I spent years using this type of "substantial" ware:) It has distinct, unique beauty. Funny how similar can be the memories from the opposite sides;)
