Description
Captured 9/28/12, early morning, two blocks from home.
Canna (or canna lily, although not a true lily) is a genus of nineteen species of flowering plants. The closest living relations to cannas are the other plant families of the order Zingiberales, that is the Zingiberaceae (gingers), Musaceae (bananas), Marantaceae, Heliconiaceae, Strelitziaceae, etc.
The species have large, attractive foliage and horticulturists have turned it into a large-flowered and bright garden plant. In addition, it is one of the world's richest starch sources, and is an agricultural plant.

The classification of flowers often drives me to distraction. According to which website you go to, the variety shown above is called either a Canna Yellow King Humbert or a Picasso, with possibly other titles if you're willing to do the research.

I love this freckled variety of canna lily; I miss seeing these all over the place, they aren't as common up here as they are down in tropical southern California. A spectacular capture, Harry!

Your framed flowers have been treats, framed presentations. The front cannas bloom out right into our space. Big freckled creatures reaching right through the frame. And the faded background is perfect backing. Beautifully done, with another vivid flower capture (and postwork) among your long and distinguished series of flowers, here. Considering that most of these are right near your home, it just goes to show you that one has the world under their fingertips, if they only stop to notice. (And capture it for others...) Beautifully done. (Ok, a pun: How 'bout a canna tuna? That's the best I can come up with at 5:30 in the morning...)
