Description
Captured 2/16/10, early morn, somewhere around the neighborhood.
A birthday dedication for you, my friend.
This is my first endeavor at emulating, or at least approximating, Mark's iconic style of black and white offerings, so ingeniously and finely created in his own arcane way. He often uses people in his images, which sometimes include some color and a variety of grays, all carefully depicted for the best composition.
And, always remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Pozegnanie.

Your emulation works very well Harry. I've just done some of the same.

Nice work on this extremely cool birthday dedication for Mark.

Excellent endeavor, Harry; the subject matter lends itself well to this treatment. Looks like a very expensive modern art piece! You did well...and I didn't know it was Mark's birthday, guess I'll have to do a makeup post!

I'm extremely flattered that you tried to imitate my methods---just that you thought enough of them to do it (thank you), but also because they ARE "arcane": They're secret even to me! (I do a little of this, a little of that, and have no idea how I get there.) But you created something wholly "yours," Harry, as it feels like your other work, only you've done it in stark blacks and whites. But you also have lots of grays: It's a complex piece of work...It's beautiful, intense, colliding---ie, the left knot is literally 'pushing' its way into the right, in this treatment---grained, and almost pencil or pen-like. And that panel in the middle is like an "anchor" to the piece---where you have an entirely different treatment from the rest: It anchors the piece and gives that plunging guy on the left something to 'bang into', lol. Beautiful, complex work, and thank you so much for your words as well, and for all your support and kindness over these years: They mean the world to me. A wonderful gift for my birthday, Harry. I'm flattered and touched by it all. (Btw---that driveway you so generously liked in my gallery: It's in the suburbs, not my neighborhood. I'll have to say that in my gallery---there isn't a driveway like that anywhere NEAR my home, lol. At the rates my neighborhood demands, you'd have to own Apple, GE, and 3/4 of the sports teams in the US to afford a place like that. It's in Evanston---a small city just north of Chicago. Our suburban "north shore" has miles and miles of places like that: You think, "I didn't know there was that much money on EARTH!" It's a real eye-popper. I'll get more shots from up there, assuming they don't whisk me away for bringing down the real estate values...)

I like this piece, reminds me a little of frottage technique used by the likes of Max Ernst to name one artist.
