Description
My first rose posting since Valentine's Day, captured 3/20/14, early in the morning, somewhere around the neighborhood.
One of my favorite roses, which I have shown before. So as not to be outdone by Andrea when it comes to identifying flora, I did some research and came up with the following:
Botanical name: Rosa gallica 'Versicolor'
Other names: French rose, Thornless rose, Rosa mundi, Rosa versicolor, Rosa mundi 'Versicolor'
Genus: Rosa
Variety or Cultivar: 'Versicolor' _ 'Versicolor' is a vigorous, compact, spreading, deciduous shrub with serrated, mid-green leaves and semi-double, pink or white, striped and spotted crimson flowers in summer.
Rosa gallica 'Versicolor' is: Deciduous
Flower: Dark-red, Pink, Variegated, White in Summer
Foliage: Mid-green in Summer
Fragrance: The flowers are lightly scented.
Habit: Bushy, Compact
Ultra cool when viewed via ZOOM.

Yeah, with Denise, I'm impressed with your research too. I see a flower and say: "Big! Red! Floppy!" That's my scientific limit, Harry. You and Andrea and Denise (and some others): I'll never know how you know all these flowers and trees and plants---I'll never know. But much more than that, this capture is beautiful. Like Denise implies, this is a big peppermint candy shot, and the clarity and vividness of the flower as it juts towards us---against that deep dark green background---is just beautiful. A real rose "portrait". And your angle---very slight, but real---lets us see the shadows inside the petals beautifully. One rose after the next, you never fail. This is gorgeous flower work, my friend.
