Excellent shot, at first I thought how shiny must that euphonium be?, but on zoom I saw it was stickers and labels, and not reflections like I first thought.

They look great, and sounded even better! That was a terrific interlude in our walk around the Quarter. (And a WAY better shot than anything I got!) :P

A real street fair, bill, the visual cacophony is all overtaken by your line of musicians, the line of photos back there, the line of paintings on the other side, the wonderful contrast of the diagonal roofline near the top (balcony-line is better), and by the wonderful succession from deep saturated hues---the shirts of the players on the left---to the stark whites of the players on the right. Few cities in the world have this kind of street music going on---not this kind of jazz---and you got the feeling right off the bat. (There's a guy with a tuba who has decorations on that baby's bell that could stop a graffiti artist!) And you have two loving listeners upfront who give the stamp of approval to the whole piece---great inclusion! Very vivid hues, really deep shadows, and a very clear presence for everyone. Love the shot, Bill. You got the spirit of the place for sure, and real mix of age, race, culture, all of it. A N.Orleans bouquet... (N.Orleans jazz is really an amazing mix of traditional with new; and though "dixieland" was once associated with N.Orleans jazz, now their jazz has so many time periods in it. A real mix, like this picture. And btw, in the days before synthesizers---which are MOVABLE---it was REEEALLLLLLY hard to drag a grand piano around to such gigs. I know they have pianos in some of these squares, but overall, carrying a piano is NOT for the weak of heart, and basically you wound up playing a triangle or just going "yeah!" alot. You knew that was the pianist doing that, the one without the instrument. Poor blighter, he had to just play the beat...)

Deep, dark, and picturesque, Bill. And one thing for sure, Mark/anahata.c saved me a lot of writing in this comment. He covered the whole N.O. waterfront in his narrative. How do you follow that?

You have captured the scene perfectly Bill. I cannot only hear the music and feel the atmosphere, but also taste the po'boy. On one of our training missions to nearby Gulfport and Keesler AFB for Chem Defense training after the first Gulf War, we went over to New Orleans several times in the evening and soaked up that special atmosphere listening to jazz.
