Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

That looks rather risky. Especially in the middle you have to make big steps. A great shot!

Zoom's a must! It just opens up to this biggggg flatland with all those grass-punctuations---which are echoed by the antennae and I assume boat-masts in the background (on the right). (If those aren't boat masts, then you got one big army of archers preparing for battle---agincourt in your own backyard!) I love the flat swampy sweep of this, and how it's punctuated by those houses on top. And the boardwalk---the 'subject' of the piece---is this old tattered zig-zag affair, and it's beautiful in its ugly green mold and broken slabs...and it's fun to follow it all the way back. Love this shot, a lovely mess of backyard-of-nature stuff. And the flickr is fine as well.

This is a lovely pic with a superb background Andrea even if the boards are dodgy.

Flip that could be a bit dodgy!!

Excellent shot of the boards leading the eye, and Christchurch priory in the background :)

The boards look very inviting...until one spots the damage. Lovely scene with interesting roofs and masts

An amazing boardwalk captured so impressively in both cases, I would not like to fall in there.. probably like quicksand.. it would suck you under, the more you struggle the more you sink.

I'm brave but I am NOT foolish! I'll wait until the walk is repaired before I set foot on it! - my shortcut to work is still very much under water Great capture

He comes from one side, she from the other. It is their habit to meet and talk and, perhaps, steal a few kisses. The boardwalk, the marsh ... the entire setting is so beautiful, so romantic, it doesn't matter that they don't love each other as much as they both might like. After the storm he comes to meet her and finds that the slight gulf between them has been made manifest. They're both so young that the symbolism escapes them. The broken boardwalk makes for a wonderful place to stand and yearn for unavailable, unapproachable, unrequited love ... and so they are happy to pose, gazing across at each other, fully aware of how romantic they look. Tomorrow when they come again, she will be wearing a long, full skirt and have her hair up. An opportunity such as this is not to be wasted.

Wow, Tara! Your immense writing talent has in a few words evoked a whole other Brontean world.

Wow, what havoc a miniature tsunami can create. Terrific depth in this long range shot of the disheveled but highly textured marshland, and busted boardwalk, Andrea, as it serpentines its way into the distance towards what looks like a marina and pointy headed structures. Great clarity and color in this.

Now this one, I would love to attempt and try crossing it, despite short legs (just like Fritz) ... could be a slippery affair, but it would be memorable ;P I like both pix very much, the flickr even more, BB

As we say here in the States, "You can't get there from here". The road home will be closed until further notice. Terrific composition, especially the flickr image, leading the eye into the distant buildings.

I like both shots ,we didn't get that far but it looks interesting.

One certainly cannot help but view this as a romantic place with it's curving boardwalk broken down by the storms. If your photo did not do it then Tara's mini story did. What talent between you!!

Looks a bit dodgy to walk on Andrea

What a stunning view; I loved this marsh, there's so much to see, and the meander of this boardwalk is perfect. A beautiful shot!

Superb capture Andrea. God bless.

A beautiful view for those living in those houses. I see that there a 'planks' ready to be moved into place. I like the wider angle of the FlickR photo!

This is so very cool; I'd love to be able to walk along it with you someday; I'll even carry the dachshund!!

This looks very special, Andrea, and what a great depth and landscape-capture.

Oh would you look at that big old church that rises up out of the new homes built all around .. a thing of beauty in the midst of all those look alike houses! And are those birds .. gulls maybe in the water just past the last bunch of reeds and before the land where the new buildings are? and that one place where the boat masts are so thick they look like a forest of masts! I really like both views, but this one a bit more because I can really zooooom in!!
