Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Another Ozrics album cover :)

I see one large face (the entire doodle looks like a cartoon cat or dog) and the possibility of endless others. How tempting! :)

I do like these spontaneous pieces you create, reminds us that sometimes we must hit the non-digital side of our creativity in order to keep in touch with the materials and techniques digital art may take away from us unless we work in a digital/non-digital mixed media situation. I like both pieces but if I had to choose between the two I would go for the original piece in it's entire format.

I'm glad that you have a name for this bizarre creation, Andrea, because I would be hard put to identify it. I'm even lost for an analogy on the thing. After scrutinizing it, I don't feel so guilty about my variations. Wait a second! Now I think I see a pair of sunglasses sitting in a brassiere.

I have sailed through the Sargasso Sea (mid 60s with the US Navy) and this is a beautiful representation of what it was. Today it is mostly trash and garbage tangled in the seaweed along with gobs of oil waste products! I'm not sure that it is still the ecosystem that I saw in the 60s!

I see you captured an image of the Sargasso Monster at center top. Its a wonderful likeness. It seems to be dining on fish eggs. I have say I prefer the original if only for the purple swoosh.

What lovely free flowing artistic talent you have. Thanks for sharing your creative doodles with us. I love both of them.

Looks like an aerial view of a bit of land jutting out into the sea.

I assume "sargassoish" is a form of seaweed, right? Dana spoke of the Sargasso Sea, and Mark spoke of "the Sargasso Monster"---I didn't even know there WAS a Sargosso Monster...But it does look like seaweed or a badly made jumper or a waistcoat that's having a bad day. The flickr version is clean and clear, and I love the fine-lined purple strokes, and how they integrate their lines into the seaweed. I also love the tentacles in your doodles, they're really organic; along with the "eyes" in those center sections. (You even have a criss cross "mesh" in the lowest section.) THEN. The postworked version: You know copperplates? I know they're used for art or etching or whatever---but when you flow currents through them, they discolor like this. All kinds of waves of hue-change. An extreme hall of distorted mirrors, and it's all rushed through and cropped closer, and it's much more intense. I love both versions, and I always love to see your doodles. And here the tentacles (top left) look like the creature eyeing for food, or reaching to get out of the frame. Delightful complex stuff, Andrea! I never tire of these.

ooohs and aaaaahs Andrea!! at first I liked the Flickr version because of the clear sharp lines, but then on second look I fell in love with this one .. I see SO many things right off the bat, there's even a witch who appears on the edge of the green on the left edge of the green! I think she's entering the little house .. oh yeah, I definitely love this version! wonderful textures and designs and everything!
