Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Superb capture my friend. God bless.

A bit of drama there, good job Fritz was on a lead at that moment, I'm sure his breeding would have switched in and maybe dived in?, then it would have been a mass of splashing water golden coat and feathers.. plus plenty of hissing.. stark reminder that we think of Fritz as a refined gent of a dog but first and foremost he is a dog breed that was bred for the purpose of scenting and chasing/flushing out burrowing animals which he is designed perfectly for. We know he is a softy really but just like a human with specific training be it doctor, soldier, fireman, nurse etc.. those skills kick in instinctively when confronted with a situation for which they specialize. Chuckle.. great captures.

Oh Fritzie, leave the swans well alone, they could easily drown you!!!

Bet Fritz is enjoying the Swan's Lake

Poor Fritz, all the good food feed to his enemies. A superb capture!

Poor Fritz - none of them are taking any notice of him.

Brilliant narrative.

LOL! I remember the big cob he wanted to rumble when Ronnie and I were there. I can imagine how indignant he was when there were this many! Wonderful capture of this decidedly hazardous situation!

GORGEOUS CAPTURE

A fantastic capture Andrea - I have never seen that many swans in one place. Tell Fritz that I was attacked by a large male and it was not a pretty sight. Welts all over my arms a wet up to my waist!

After missing the feeding frenzy you might want to check on Fritz to see if he is taking swimming lessons and learning to honk.

As Dee says, the angry Cob and the angry dog remember fondly. What a great shot this is with the little fellow ready to express his territorial rights :)

Really fun shot, love to see Fritz down there glaring in...I know it's hard to stop a dog's natural hunting instincts, I never could. I like him down there in a corner, with those beautiful swans filling up the majority of the shot. The color contrast is striking too---ie, those white swans against Fritz's beautiful coat. The Flickr version is amazing for the line of swans coming in for a landing---beautifully seen, Andrea. Not easy to get those shots. A very nice duo, and you wonder, if Fritz made any noise, how the birds didn't fly off in a New York Minute. Also, you took the shot with one hand because you were holding fritz with the other. Nice manipulation!

I wonder if Leya would overcome her hatred of wet feet and dive in for those wonderful swans! If ever the word "abhor" worked .. it totally describes Leya's thought's on water other then for drinking. This is a marvelous capture, especially getting while hanging on to Fritz who looks VERY eager to get those swans .. or maybe it's to get the food that's being wasted on the swans, (:

The combatants gird their loins for combat between canine and waterfowl in this imposing capture taken at the pier, Andrea. I can imagine Fritz, with his low slung body, getting into a chaotic free for all with the swans.

Somehow Mandy doesn't worry about swans too much. One time she got excited over a pair of geese, but they had to get really close before she cared much. Squirrels and cats, however, are challenged to tooth-and-claw duels at 50 paces. I can just imagine him going ballistic here!!
