Description

Bombylius major I was thrilled to actually get some photos of one of these for the first time, and although many others have far better photos it is an achievement for me! See one without the wingblur Here

For hours I was hunting to get a sharp shot of this fly, but that's really hard, huh? I love yours, Andrea. Congratulations!!! I don't have mine on the p.c. yet.

Must confess I don't think I have ever encountered one of these in a photograph before. This is a wonderful find and capture... how about the big challenge for the summer?... any chance of a Hummingbird Hawk-Moth?. I have spotted these through the years in north devon but they are so fast and nippy.. grab the camera and it's off... seen them in pairs too. These two shots are great.

For some reason I can't connect to flickr, which really bothers me because I love to compare your shots! (It's one of the great features of your gallery.) Well, I'll have to just comment on this one...The beefly is a big fuzzy thing, substantial with lots of fuzz, and well, kinda cute (don't tell him I said that), and formidable sitting on that flower. You got very strong light on the flower (the primrose), which makes the fly stand out. The contrasts are eye-catching, and you even caught a flower behind it with the same intense light. You know, I do so few macros that I still don't know how you get these insect poses all the time: I guess you get so conversant with insects' movements, you just know when to shoot. A striking moment, and striking lighting. And fine detail on the beefly. (It's really furry!) I'll check out the flickr when it decides to come back to my mac...

Actually, not the most handsome of insects in nature -- in fact, a hairy beast -- but you have done it proud with great clarity and a fine POV in this capital macro, A.

You are the only person I know who can get excited capturing an image of something of which I've never heard. Two superb pictures of this tiny beastie. Now I have to go and find out all about it.

I know of these, but have never seen one in the real life, so your achievement means a lot to me as well as you my dear.
