Description

The first nest they made had youngsters in when i noticed it, but the next day they had been predated and the nest was on the path. Within a day of two the adults had rebuilt a few yards further along the hedge, and these eggs were in there. They are brooding at present, so I haven't had chance for a close look.

Sometimes blackbirds can be a bit nervy with their nesting and eggs, I remember as a kid seeing this happen and that was in the back garden in London. Cats seems to get at them too as they are prone sometimes building nests too low and not always in the best places. The contradiction to that is the Blackbirds themselves are actually quite brave.. they will come very close to you even when doing gardening if the worms are on the move in the flower beds or lawns. I remember here in devon one who was getting on a bit and had a bad leg but it never bothered him and he was a visitor for almost three years until one day he never returned.. guess he must have got caught by a bird of prey or fell to age. I have shots of him I shall put up sometime. Nice shot, hope they hatch... lots happening at this time of the year.

Cool capture of the Three Sisters, Andrea. And, the birds don't have it that bad, so what are they brooding about? The eggs look in good shape, so that shouldn't trouble them. Things could be a lot worse in avian land.

Over the years I have seen many blackbirds building nests in my garden. Sometimes, after a week or so, the adults will vanish leaving a pristine nest full of eggs. I have never known why!

It's hard work rearing a clutch, I guess; nature can be cruel! What a lovely full nest this is!

Two nests! How exciting. I've only seen one nest in my life. Of course, once the neighbor kids found it the parents abandoned it and the hatchlings died. I hope these fare better.
