Description

I've wanted to do a Lohengrin image for years but the lack of a decent swan shelved that idea. Finally my recent Swan project fixed that roadblock. For those of you unfamiliar with the legend of Lohengrin. Lohengrin is known as the "Swan Knight" and resides in the Swan Castle. He is the son of Parzival (Percival), he is a knight of the Holy Grail sent in a boat pulled by a swan to rescue a maiden, Elsa of Brabant. Elsa is on trial, falsely accused of murdering the missing royal ward. Lohengrin wins the trial by combat and marries Elsa with only one request, she can never ask his true identity. Elsa eventually betrays this promise, dies of a broken heart and Lohengin's swan transforms back into the missing ward. Lohengrin sadly returns to his Swan Castle alone. The first rendition of the story was written in 1210 by German poet, Wolfram von Eschenbach in is "Parzival" work. The story was later expanded and adapted into an opera by Richard Wagner in 1848. The now traditional wedding march music comes from this opera. Wagner's patron, King Ludwig of Bavaria was so moved by the opera, he began to fantasize himself as Lohengrin, the Swan Knight and built the swan castle, Neuschwanstein. Neuschwanstein, in turn, became the inspiration for the Disneyland Castle. Rendered in Poser 2014 without postwork. Models: Michael 4, King's Champion armor, Avalon boat (DAZ), Castle (unknown), Swamp (Nerd3d), Trees (Dinoraul) and Mute Swan(Ken Gilliland/Hivewire3D)

Great depiction. I was vaguely familiar with this story. Something of an expansion on the Arthurian mythos. I'm betting we'll be seeing your swans show up in other tales that have not been illustrated, due to a lack of proper looking swans.
