Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Nice work, that is a beautiful butterfly, do we often think enough about the wonderful beauty of them?...we cannot compete with nature.

It took a ZOOM to really appreciate your digifiddled picture plane efforts, Andrea.

First of all, you are so lucky to catch this speedy beastie - and then the posterization really changes the feel of the whole capture and makes it appear more like a fabric pattern - wicked work Andrea, BB

Ditto the above..great work.

Spectacular. The post work really helps it stand out from the background. First class work.

I do like that flat look you get with this technique. Lovely result!

Wow! So lovely, I could easily imagine a Hawaiian shirt print of this! I don't think those butterflies live here, at least I've only ever seen them over there. Lucky you!

Oh, I'm a huge fan of your plane-flattening. And the thing about it is, you create depth via everything else. The hues you get from each little colony, and how they relate to the hues around them, and the thick outlines around some of the edges both add the feeling of depth to the 'landscape'. Another joy from these pieces is that, as we travel through your highly complex colonies and eddies and tide pools, we also step back and see the butterfly, tulips, bench, etc---so we're weaving in and out of two worlds. Then, when we leave the butterfly etc, we dive back into the tide pools, molds, chipped surfaces, etc. Very rich. Everything of yours deserves zoom, but pieces like this are transformed by zoom (and I'm depressed to see there are only 5, of which I am one); because in zoom, these treatments open up like peeking through the clouds in a plane: Suddenly you're presented with an infinite landscape of forms and hues, and you're so glad the clouds cleared. Just beautiful, just beautiful.
