Description

of a medical facility, specializing in x-ray and echocardiogram tests, captured 4/15/14, in beautiful Los Alamitos, California. I was there for an echocardiogram of my carotid arteries in an effort to determine the cause of a recent TIA/mini stroke I had experienced. Since I spend much of my life languishing seemingly forever in the waiting rooms of doctors, hospitals and examination facilities, I decided to pull an Andrea, and take advantage of the situation by sneaking in some shots of the surroundings. These are just five out of a total of fifteen pics I clandestinely took while moving from chair to chair. I like the fourth photo, depicting the gentleman having dozed off after reading one page of his book. Incidentally, this facility is but a mere mile or so from MrsRatbag's Los Alamitos High School alma mater. And, the results of my test turned out to be normal, with no sign of unusual activity, which was a relief of sorts. In any event, getting old sucks. Again, please ZOOM. Ciao, baby.

Well done, Harry! Great pics, and of course thrilled you are still above ground for a bit longer. I'm at the hospital next week for an ultrasound, and I will attempt a couple of sneakies in the X-ray department. As you remark, old age isn't for wimps.

Good way to occupy yourself while waiting. :) I was wishing my camera was handy the other day, in the grocery store.... I have to try to keep it handy from now on. Good shots. I am also happy to hear the test results were good. I hope you are well. Take care.

Harry, first of all let me say that I'm sorry to hear you've had some health concerns lately and I'll be sure to put you in my prayers. Now let me say that this is all too familiar a scene for my family lately as we have had my Father in and out of waiting room and hospitals almost constantly over the last few months. I'm amazed you were able to get these shots without getting into trouble with the staff.

My p & s camera is too small and inconspicuous, and so similar to the cellphones and smartphones being used by everyone in the room, that it was hardly noticeable. Plus, the only one around that could be considered staff was the receptionist, who, being ensconced deep inside her desk area with high shelves and a computer blocking her view, was really unable to see out. And, with my being an old time ninja at sneaky photos, made it virtually impossible for anyone to know what I was doing. All in all, a piece of cake.

Waiting rooms...I've had my share of those, and I'm sure there will be more to come. This one looks nice, although why are the chairs always so uncomfortable? They should put recliners or massage chairs in given the amount of time we have to spend in them. You did well on these shots, at least the lighting was good for you. And I was very glad to hear your test results were good. There was nothing this nice in the area when I was in aforesaid high school, just taco stands and mom & pop grocery shops...things do change, don't they? Excellent series of shots, and I hope everyone else in there got good news too!

These are all excellent shots! Great composition, lots of interest. I looked at them all so many times, I've even decided where I'd like to sit! Really fine work.

Great comments, and I agree with all the praise. Having heard about this famous test, I now get to see the actual context. It's amazing, because the test---via words---felt heavy and challenging: But these shots feel airy and light, the way all waiting rooms are designed to make one feel, I assume. Love the angles and mish-mash of all the styles. You got a lot of air and light, too, so true of these waiting rooms. Love the randomness of the people---even the person in the top shot, wayyyyyyy in the back reading a paper near a wall. And all that waiting room art. Really fine angles, Harry---these are not box shots at all. And that guy falling sleep: I tried to see the title of his book, all I could make out was "Duty". Well the call to duty didn't last too long for him, that day. He's kind of the anchor of the the whole bunch (and captures what most of us feel in those rooms). And I assume that the last one is you? (If not, you got reeeealllllly close to an unassuming patient!) Great shots of yourself sitting: Good capper to the bunch. Fine bunch, and a nice way to lift the burden from these visits. With others, I hope you don't have to go back to these places for a long time. A fine transformation of a not-pleasant event.
