Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Ohhh Andrea! This is fabulous! What a sweet capture to make my day on this lazy Sunday! These chicks are too cute, and it makes me want one... (or two...) hehe.... Fritz looks very interested in them... Hope you have a wonderful week ahead, my Friend!

Sweet shot, wonder what Fritz is thinking? And what the chicks are thinking!

Fritz is really fascinated by these chicks, such a cute capture. I like the close-up in the other shot too.

This is absolutely priceless! What a capture - I love the intensity in Fritz's gaze, and the glow of the light on his face is so lovely. This is a wonderful shot!

Superb capture Andrea. God bless.

They sometimes raise chicks in an incubator at work. Very interesting stuff.

This is a great shot and even better, since I've developed an interest in chickens, lately; it would seem that a particular scientist in the USA is interested in learning more about animal evolution, and has triggered atavism in at least one batch of chickens: (they have teeth). He's not interested in resurrecting dinosaurs (that can't be done, despite what Hollywood tells you) but chickens can be made to regress (Chickens with tails and teeth are the next thing, in terms of lab experiments. All of this is to see just how dinosaurs evolved into birds, though I have to admit that I'm rather interested in surly chickens with teeth. That has nothing to do with this image, and yet... I love the light in this shot and those really, perky little chicks. I also like the fact that this is a multispecies shot! And it's quite clear that Fritz is thinking. There are two questions that then come to mind. 1: What's he thinking? and 2: Do we really want to know, since dog perceptions and value systems are not exactly in line with out own? I suspect his thoughts are based on smell. Just guessing. I love this shot and I rather like the fact that I have to now catch up.

Could be a very good diner :) :)

"Some new friends or something to eat?" Both images are adorable. Chip may be thinking of a new discovery dubbed " The Chicken from Hell". This was a giant raptor, but with a chicken-like head and feathers. Anzu Wyliei stood ten feet tall and seems to have been a mix of chicken, cassowary and dinosaur.

What a great photo of Life. New chicks and a dog with personality evident in his gaze. Thanks for sharing.

Adorable - Love this capture!

The light on Fritz's face is wonderful! I like the pic of the chicks, too. Who knew the light in the terrarium would be so good for photography? These are both terrific.

Fritz appears mesmerized at the sight of these chicks, imprisoned within a glass or plastic incubator container, Andrea.

Pure and 'evil' concentration on Fritz's face ;P I love the look of this encounter between the different types of animals ... great catch Andrea, BB

Lovely details on the FlickR chick and I love the expression on Fritz's face!
