Description

For a large part of the day on my London trip, we visited Covent Garden. This is a shot of the covered market, a neo-classical building erected in 1830 and designed by Charles Fowler to cover and help organise the market. In the 1960s, traffic congestion was causing problems, so the market relocated to the New Covent Garden Market (about three miles (5 km) south-west at Nine Elms) in 1974. The central building re-opened as a shopping centre in 1980, and is now a tourist location containing cafes, pubs, small shops, and a craft market called the Apple Market. ------------------------------------------ Original Photograph 27 Feb 2014
