When an anchor is "aweigh" it is being lifted and is about to lose contact with the bottom.. I know, I spent 4 years in the U.S. Navy...

oh 62guy just taught me something also. Thanks for sharing this wonderful contrasting shot. I love the red boat against the green water...whether the anchor is aweigh or not :)

Avast mates, we're jolly well about to hit the briny! Nice composition and ambiance in this shot, Marilyn. And, it might clear up some confusion if they changed the term to Anchors Away.

Lotta discussion on "Anchors Aweigh" above! "Aweigh" actually means just what it says---"a" as in "towards" (like "asleep," "ashore"), and "weigh" meaning "weight". It mean to move towards the weight, or bring the boat closer to the weight---so it's an anchor being brought close to the water. That however is neither here nor there (and it's pretty boring, to boot), you're just using a famous song title, and that's fine. The shot's a stark contrast of a big looming ship-side with flat water. And it's all connected by a big chain: 3 elements, minimalist again, and two of them are very bold. It's just plain fine design. Like Tara and Denise say, it's terrific composition and color. Another real marilyn shot, as a lot of people would go for the big ship; but you zeroed in on a few elements instead. Almost an abstract. Fine shot again. Avast ye matees! (That's the only boat talk I know. And I think it's from a different century...)
